8pm Concert at Gilly's May 24th - tickets on sale now! More shows announced!

Good day, everyone!

I am delighted to announce some newly-scheduled Crazy Joe concerts! In response to continued requests for early Crazy Joe shows (for which you'll get NO argument from this guy), I'm offering a special concert at the historic Gilly's Jazz in Dayton on Saturday May 24th at 8:00 p.m.! E-tickets for this show are available at crazyjoe.org by clicking HERE. "An Evening With Crazy Joe" will feature an all-star band consisting of Peter Hayes on piano, Loyd Stigers on bass, and Gregory "Duke" Dewey on drums. For ten bucks, you get a two-hour concert with a great band in a famous venue with top-notch sound and lights; and did I mention it's an early show? Get your tickets now while they last!

In other, highly-disturbing news, it has been reported that a certain Latvian fugitive named Tyrd Fyrgysyn MIGHT be coming to Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs Saturday April 26th along with the infamous MasterXploders. And MIGHT be playing with the extreme rock & roll quartet Spanish Tony Sanchez. And that the show MIGHT kick off at 10p.m. at the highly-satisfactory price of $free.ninety-free. MAYBE. You've been warned?

'Till next time,

Mad River Outlaws reunion this weekend! Check out the new Crazyjoe.org forum!

Hey everybody!

First of all, I hope everyone is as excited as I am that this winter is finally almost history. And to celebrate this notion, there are several Crazy Joe gigs in the works, the first of which will be a Mad River Outlaws reunion THIS SATURDAY NIGHT March 15th (yes, the Ides!) at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Making this event even more special is that it's founding member "Hep Cat" Matt's Birthday! We won't mention how old he is, since you should never ask a woman her...never mind! Just come to the show; music starts at 10:00pm! Be sure to buy Mr. Hep Cat a green beer, as Peach's is celebrating St. Patrick's Day ALL day.

In other news, I'd like to announce the RETURN of the official Crazyjoe.org web forum; a very bad idea by all accounts, but what the heck! Those of you who have been following this website a long time may remember that we had one of these as early as 2002, back when they were cool. Well, we got rid of it for a reason. So why am I bringing it back? I get a lot of e-mails from folks asking about recording stuff, guitar stuff, gig details; and maybe this could be a neat sounding board, who knows? Check it out by clicking HERE!

Finally, I've added a few links to the Press page, including the electronic version of the January Dayton City Paper article, and a couple more reviews. Enjoy!

'Till next time,

Ol' Crazy says THANK YOU! And check out the cover of the Dayton City Paper!

Hello folks,

First of all, I want to drop a quick note to check in and say "thank you" to everybody who made 2013 truly great for me and Tritschler Precision Engineering. To everyone who checked out my new record, bought a TPAD Model 1000 phono preamp (I still have some left!), or came to a show; I am incredibly grateful and wouldn't be worth half a lick without you...I really mean it. Here's to more shows, more records, and more nerdy audio escapades in 2014!

Now, if you're local to Dayton, Ohio, check out the Dayton City Paper this week! They put my face on the cover and a full-color spread about my studio, my music, and even my academic career - no kidding, what an honor! If you don't manage to secure a print copy, I'll see if I can get permission to put an electronic version on the site after the paper has run. Check it out!

'Till next time, my friends.

Introducing the TPAD 1000! In-stock and shipping!

Hey folks!

Interesting things going on in the world of nerdy electronics and hi-fi audio at the Tritschler Precision Engineering Headquarters these days! For many years, I've received requests to make hi-fi audio equipment for people; especially phono preamplifiers, for which I've written a couple of articles for audioXpress magazine (click HERE and HERE to read them). In 2003, I started a company called Tritschler Precision Audio Devices which made electronic kits of one of my phono preamp designs for DIY audio folks. But many people continued to ask if I'd ever offer an assembled unit. If you're not sure what the hell I'm even talking about, click here!

Well, I'm happy to report that I'm making a limited-edition run of 40 hand-assembled finished units, and they're now in-stock and shipping! To make this an extra-cheesy gimmick, I'm hand-signing and numbering them. Excuse the shameless name-dropping, but Deke Dickerson bought serial number one! Will I make more when this batch is gone? I keep telling myself I won't, because I have so many design and labor hours in them I'm barely turning a profit, but I've also learned a lot about fabrication and assembly methods and there's something about making these that is hard to resist. It's been an exciting process to put it mildly; and the bills have been a little scary! But if you care to, click here to find out more about this endeavor, of which I'm very proud.

Kind regards,

Headin' to Seattle! More new record reviews!

Howdy folks,

Just a quick update this time. First, I'm headed for Seattle, WA this weekend to play the 26th Annual Rockabilly Ball at Highway 99 Blues Club! I can't believe it's been seven years since I've been up there; can't wait to get back and rock out with the likes of Marti Brom, the Bellfuries, and more of my pals I wish I could see more often! If you're more local to Dayton, Ohio, perhaps the Oktoberfest at the Dayton Art Institute Saturday the 28th is more your speed - don't miss it! I'll be backed by Brian Aylor and Chris Douglas from Cincy and that's always a good time.

In other news, I've recently updated the Press page of this site with more record reviews and articles, including some oldies from the archives and a brand-new, hot-off-the-presses review and interview in the new issue of Blue Suede News magazine - check 'em out! I'll be adding more stuff as I find it. I've also included a really old artifact from my teenage years you might find amusing.

Besides that, I'm staying mighty busy with my 200+ engineering students and can't complain one bit. I've somehow managed to squeeze in some secret recording and audio engineering projects, but I'll reveal those secrets next time...maybe.

'Till then,

Back from Europe! Review of The Doctor Is IN! in The Absolute Sound!

Hey folks,

Things are verging on out-of-control at the TPEHQ this week, but not at all in a bad way! I made it out of the Hot Rod Hayride in Brookwood, Surrey, England in one piece after two fantastic shows, and did manage (barely) to keep my cool playing drums for the legendary Duane Eddy at the Summer Jamboree in Senigallia, Italy - NOT easy after Duane told me that the 1960 hit song "Because They're Young" featured Shelly Manne beating the skins, among other utterly amazing tales he told us over after-dinner coffee! (As a tangential aside, not only does Duane, at age 75, play exactly like he did in 1957, his memory is like a steel trap and he had us all completely floored with stories of recording and touring, playing on American Bandstand and his last days with Eddie Cochran in England. A true gentleman and a true legend, and I'm grateful just to have met him, let alone worked for the man.)

In other news, The Doctor Is IN! has been reviewed in super-audiophile magazine The Absolute Sound, Issue #235 (September 2013)! This is big, BIG news, as I make no bones about being audiophile-oriented in my recording and electronic design endeavors. That they would review a TRULY independent release - and give it 4-1/2 out of 5 stars for sonics, which itself has blown my mind to shreds - is humbling beyond belief. Subscription copies are now out, and the electronic version is available on their website; so I'm sure newsstand copies will be available before too long if not already. I'll try to have a text version of the review on this site soon; please stay tuned. And stay tuned for other developments in the works, including a new product from Tritschler Precision Audio Devices...

Keepin' it together the best I know how,

Headed back to Europe! Limited-edition 180-gram LP's available!

Hello friends,

A few things to talk about! First off, a BIG thank you to everybody who made it to the Fairborn Actor's Theater concert last month with Chris Douglas on bass and Brian Aylor on drums. It was such a great show (and dang near sold out!), I'm resolving to offer more 8pm all-ages shows in the very near future; so stay tuned and thank you again for such an overwhelming response!

However, the REALLY big news is that I'm headed back to jolly England this weekend to play the fantastic Hot Rod Hayride in Brookwood, Surrey! I'll be doing a set with Deke Dickerson, as well as my own show with able backing by Deke on bass and the amazing Alex Hall from Chicago on drums. But that's not even the craziest part...the weekend after that, I'm backing up Deke again at the Summer Jamboree in Senigallia, Italy - and playing drums for the legendary 'twangy' guitarist Duane Eddy! That is NOT a misprint - I'm Duane Eddy's drummer for a day! Talk about bizarre; he's one of my absolute guitar heroes, whom I had the privilege of backing on acoustic rhythm guitar at Deke's Guitar Geek Festival three years ago. I've often joked that I may not be a drummer first and foremost, but since I've been paid to play drums, I'm technically a "professional;" and now I can't deny it at all. Workin' for Duane? It doesn't get much better than this.

Finally, news for the audiophiles; The Doctor Is IN! is available in a limited-edition "Super-180" 180-gram LP, pressed in a small batch made from a fresh set of stampers for extra-extra-high fidelity! The record additionally comes with a high-resolution download card, so for the extra-nerdy audiophiles with hi-res DAC's and media players, you can enjoy 24-bit/88.2kHz .wav files cut straight from the analog master tapes with no further processing for startlingly transparent, accurate sound. Anybody still awake?

'Till next time, my friends.

New shows announced! Tickets on sale NOW!

Hello folks,

LOTS of things happening around these parts! First and foremost, I'd like to announce TWO NEW SHOWS happening Saturday night June 15th at the Actor's Theater of Downtown Fairborn, Ohio! In response to numerous requests for an early-evening, all-ages concert suitable for everyone to enjoy, I'm offering an 8:00pm early show and a 10:00pm late show. The Actor's Theater is an intimate, 100-seat 1920's theater with great, not-too-loud acoustics (no instrument miking!) and professional stage lighting in an area with plenty of parking right out front. The best part? For $10, you get a ninety-minute concert featuring me and Cincinnati hotshots Brian Aylor and Chris Douglas on drums and bass; that's less than going to a movie you can see anytime! Click HERE to get your tickets, which are only available on www.crazyjoe.org! Seating is limited, so get 'em before they sell out!

Speaking of sold-out shows, last month's LP release party at Canal Street Tavern was packed to the gills and got me a little misty-eyed. Thanks again to all my friends, family, students, and fans who came out and made the scene. And an EXTRA special thank you to Brian Aylor, Chris Douglas, "Hep Cat" Matt Duffey, "Anaconda" Kyle Eldridge, "Nicky Kay" Kizirnis, and "Honest" Rob Heiliger for tearing it up! We will have to do it again soon, guys.

I've got some new developments in analog recording to talk about soon, as well as some other big announcements on that front, but they'll have to wait; until then, hope I see you at the show.

Kind regards,

Big show Saturday night! Dayton Daily News Article! Back from Vegas!

Quick message, folks!

Vegas was exhausting, but highly successful. I still can't believe how packed the place still was when I finished my set at 3 a.m., with yet enough energy in the crowd to warrant five encores...bear in mind that this was Vegas time, so I should have been getting up to teach about then! You guys are the best. I also had a blast playing with Deke Dickerson at his Guitar Geek show, and playing bass behind the legendary Marky Ramone on a set of Ramones songs that just about broke my arms off!

Today's Dayton Daily News has an article by Don Thrasher about my new record and studio, and tomorrow night's show at Canal Street Tavern! You didn't forget about THAT, did you? Check out the link to the story and enjoy!

I'd like to give a personal thank you to Niki Dakota and WYSO 91.3FM for having me on a special edition of Wednesday Premiers this week! The show should be available for streaming soon; check out their website if you'd like to hear it. I did all kinds of terrible things on the air, like stick my gum on the microphone and talk about my awful original songs. I love that radio station.

And finally, the download link for the hi-res digital version of "The Doctor Is IN!" is now working and fully automated, thanks to new digital goods hosting. I hope all three of you audiophile nerds who insisted on it can hear the difference! (Yes, I would be one of them.)

I just realized this message wasn't quick. I guess I've had a busy week! Hope I get to see you at the show tomorrow.

Yours,

Joe

"The Doctor Is IN!" officially released! Leavin' for Vegas!

Hello folks,

Well, it's official - "The Doctor Is IN!" has been officially released in four formats; CD, LP, mp3 download, and 24/88 hi-res audiophile download! The trip to Cleveland last week to pick up the LP's was INTERESTING, to say the least. I guess I underestimated how big and heavy a load of 1,000 gatefold LP's is, and I'm frankly surprised my wagon survived the trip! I can't thank all the folks who pre-ordered the album enough. For those who buy the LP and CD, we're shipping these babies as fast as we can! Visit the new webstore for all the details.

In the meantime, this weekend I'm headed to the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender to play with Deke Dickerson as well as doing my own feature show, the latter of which is the LAST act of the festival late Sunday night! I like to think this makes ME the HEADLINER, not Little Richard, Dick Dale, nor the Blue Caps! (Let's go with that.) I'll have as many records and CD's as I can cram in my luggage for the folks who want to grab it there.

And don't forget...April 6th at Canal Street Tavern, the official record release show! I've got many special guests lined up, including "Nicky Kay" Kizirnis, Rob Heiliger and the Mad River Three, and...wait for it...a special classic set by the Mad River Outlaws! Don't miss it!

'Till then,

Very Important Announcement.

Hello my friends,

I have an extremely important announcement to make. I did something last fall that I didn't tell many people about.

I made a record.

Not only did I make a record; it's coming out next week.

As some of you may or may not know, I haven't made a Crazy Joe record in six years. Many factors contributed to this terribly long time between albums. I bought a house; did a few tours; finished my engineering Ph.D.; worked for the man; built a studio and every piece of equipment in it; got a wonderful teaching gig; life. All this time I was writing, building, and thinking. And now I have a record.

I'd love to write you a several-pages-long letter about my one-inch eight-track all-analog studio with my homemade console, about going straight to vinyl LP from spliced-together quarter-inch mix tapes, about the 1,000 records I'm picking up first thing tomorrow morning from GGR in Cleveland and (hopefully) cramming into my station wagon, and about the real-life stories that made up the 11 songs I wrote. For now, I'll just say "please stay tuned" and you'll be hearing more about all this very soon.
P.S.: Mark Saturday April 6th on your calendars if you're close to Canal Street Tavern.

Thanks for hanging in there with me, folks.

Yours always,

2012 YEAR-IN-REVIEW - LONG OVERDUE NEWS UPDATE!

Hello folks,

First off, Happy New Year!  Here it is, 2013, and I don't believe I sent out a single e-mail or news update in 2012 - shame on me!  Truth be told, lots of things happened last year; so here’s a rundown, lest you think ol’ Crazy no longer cares to keep you in the loop.

International escapades in 2012 started by ringing in the new year with Deke Dickerson and Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague at the Let’s Get Wild Festival in Stuttgart, Germany, with both the Eccofonics and Blind Rage and Violence (and plenty of German food and beer, plus a trip to the Tritschler department store!); then the Rockabilly Rave UK in June with Deke, plus backing up the amazing Carl “Sonny” Leyland and a feature show by yours truly (sold all my CD’s so fast I bought everyone dinner at the best fish & chips place in Rye I’ve ever experienced); and finally, the infamous trip to Benidorm, Spain in October for the Funtastic Dracula Carnival, for which I played DRUMS all weekend – with Blind Rage, Deke's Venturesmania, and the Go-Nuts, the latter of which involved ridiculous costumes, pulverizing the audience with 100 euros’ worth of snacks from modified high-powered leaf blowers, heavy metal gorillas, and jumping into the pool after the last song while fireworks went off – yeah. THAT was crazy.

In domestic news, I had the privilege of backing up fantastic Brazilian guitarist João Erbetta at the Dayton Cityfolk Festival early in July; despite some weather issues, it was a great show, with more-than-able backing from Cincinnati hotshots Brian Aylor and Chris Douglas. Later that month, the Call of the Tropics festival in downtown Dayton marked the sole public appearance of the Mad River Outlaws in 2012; and it was a great show, despite heat indices topping out at 115°F (no joke). Memorable shows with the outrageous Rob Heiliger included Peach's Grill, the Clifton Opera House, and John Bryan State Park; equally memorable have been returning to my jazz/funk/rock roots with the Duke Dewey Fiasco at the Emporium in Yellow Springs and Canal Street Tavern in Dayton (our only rules so far are "no vocals" and "no practice"). And finally, let's not forget the violent, obscene, and totally disturbing return of Tyrd Fyrgysyn and the MasterXploders at Peach's Grill and Canal Street Tavern - with PLENTY more to come from all these musical excursions.

In November, I had the distinct pleasure of helping Deke Dickerson engineer and cut tracks (mostly drums!) for his new record at Eccofonic Studios in L.A., due out next Spring. But by far the biggest development around these parts in 2012 was the completion (finally!) of my new all-analog recording studio at the Tritschler Precision Engineering Headquarters, featuring a 1" eight-track analog tape recorder, hand-built tube microphones, my hybrid tube/discrete console, and a real acoustical echo chamber. I'll end this newsletter with a cryptic question - who's up for a new Crazy Joe album in 2013? ;)

Hey, I've got nothing but gratitude for all my family, friends, and fans; thanks for being an important part of my life.

'Till next time,
Dr. "Crazy" Joe Tritschler

CRAZY JOE AND SCOTTY ANDERSON - ONE NIGHT ONLY!

First off, a big THANK YOU to all the people who made it to the Crazy Joe and Tyrd Fyrgysyn show at Canal Street Tavern last weekend. It was a great night and the boys were delighted to play Canal Street again after so long. Unfortunately, Mr. Fyrgysyn appears to have been deported. At first the reports were that the police came and arrested him after the set for driving a John Deere tractor on State Route 4 without a license and outrunning a patrol car, but eyewitnesses later reported that he was definitely taken away in a federal government vehicle. We will let you know if and when Tyrd will be making another appearance in this country.

In the meantime, we have an important show to announce. For the first time anywhere, Crazy Joe will be playing with Cincinnati legend Scotty Anderson in a special double bill at Peach's Grill Friday December 9th. If you aren't familiar with Scotty, he is a world-class virtuoso jazz and fingerstyle guitarist who has received accolades from everyone from Chet Atkins to James Burton. Joe is humbled to be sharing the stage with Scotty and will be sharing his band that night as well - Cincinnati hotshots Brian Aylor on drums and Mike Barrett on bass. If you've never heard Scotty, prepare to be amazed. Show starts at 10pm sharp; be sure to make the scene.

Until then,

MAD RIVER OUTLAWS + TYRD FYRGYSYN AT CANAL STREET TAVERN 11/12...PLUS, INTERNATIONAL NEWS!

First, local news. If you tragically missed the utterly astounding Tyrd Fyrgysyn show last weekend at Peach's (many thanks to all the folks who PACKED the place, by the way!), you'll be delighted to know that they're scheduled to crash the next Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws show at Canal Street Tavern SATURDAY NOVEMBER 12th! Now let's stop to consider that this is the first time the Mad River Outlaws have played Dayton's historic Canal Street Tavern since September 2007 - seriously, folks! This is the famous concert venue where CJ & MRO's once opened for the Reverend Horton Heat, Deke Dickerson, Duke Robillard, and countless others, won first prize in the 2003 Dayton Band Playoffs, and survived such stunts as falling off an upright bass in the middle of a song. The boys couldn't be more delighted to make their BIG CANAL STREET COMEBACK and hope you'll all mark down the date and make the scene. Plus, did I mention Tyrd Fyrgysyn will be there? 'Nuff said, see you there.

Now, for our international friends...Crazy Joe will be joining Deke Dickerson and Mr. Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague for a super-special New Year's Eve concert at the Let's Get Wild festival in Stuttgart, Germany December 30-31! It'll be Crazy Joe's first trip to Germany and a heck of a way to ring in 2012! Questions are already brewing in Crazy Joe's inquisitive mind...such as, do they drop sauerkraut from the ceiling at midnight instead of a light-up disco ball? With a name like Simon Josef Tritschler, it's about time he found out.

Please stay tuned right here.

Yours,

TYRD FYRGYSYN IS BACK IN TOWN.

Ladies and gentlemen, Tyrd Fyrgysyn is back in town. As I sit at this keyboard, rolling my eyes and sighing heavily, I can't help thinking that this time he must mean business, because he arrived with a briefcase handcuffed to his wrist in one hand (he doesn't even wear briefs under that cheerleading uniform, and that's a fact) and an entire CASE of oatmeal cream pies in the other. What we do know is that there's an ALL-TYRD FYRGYSYN show scheduled HALLOWEEN WEEKEND, SATURDAY OCTOBER 29th 2011, at Peach's Grill, and to make matters even more ridiculous, he's contracted members of the heavy metal band Doctor Meat for a special tribute set to Black Sabbath with vocal dynamo Emma Woodruff on vocals (perhaps the most terrifyingly powerful soprano I've ever heard in my life). I'm not making any of this up. If I hear any more details, I'll keep you posted. In the meantime, plan to make the scene...and bring backup.

A Very Concerned Crazy Joe

BIG THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR A HUGE SUMMER; PLUS, NEW LOCAL SHOWS!

Howdy, folks!

Now that Labor Day has come and gone, summer is unofficially over and it's time to thank everyone who made this season a very busy, productive, and downright great one here in Crazy Joe land. Huge thanks to the folks who made the June Wintersun Festival in Port Macquerie, Australia with Deke Dickerson and Marti Brom just amazing, and quite an experience (besides the total 27-hour trip each way). The same goes for the Ventura Johnny Cash Festival and the insanely awesome Hot Rod Hayride in Bisley, England, where the boys awoke each morning to the soothing sounds of the nearby rifle shooting range! The Cincinnati Blues Fest in August with Brian Aylor and Steve Buckel was positively a hoot, and nobody can deny that the WYSO Community Concert with Ricky Nye, Inc. and Wheels was just tremendous - thanks to all the folks at WYSO, especially Juliet Fromholt and Niki Dakota, whose radio programs Crazy Joe heisted more than once, for making a killer event. And a big thank you to Nick Kizirnis and the folks at Fraze Pavilion for making the reunion concert featuring Nicky Kay and his Fabulous Kaytones with special guests Shrug truly memorable - despite being one of the hottest, most humid, miserable evenings of the whole summer, they didn't get stormed out this year! Most of all, THANK YOU to all the folks who came out to all these shows and truly made them happen.

NOW, if you missed out on any of that action and would like to catch some local shows, we have a few to tell you about. First, Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws, featuring the all-Enon, Ohio lineup of "Hep Cat" Matt Duffey and "Anaconda" Kyle Eldridge, is scheduled to play Melissa's Pub & Grub in Fairborn, Ohio SATURDAY NIGHT SEPTEMBER 17th! Located right next to the SportsPleX on Route 444, the Outlaws played this place years ago when it was called Digger's (and later Players Sports Pub). Now under new management, the boys are obligated to give 'em the full Crazy Joe treatment all over again...and being a local show, don't be surprised if Tyrd Fyrgysyn and the MasterXploders show up and really destroy the place! We invite you to witness this madness in person. And for those who have never seen the famous Deke Dickerson Power Trio, featuring Deke and the illustrious and magical Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague, have we got a golden opportunity for you...by magical coincidence, they'll be playing Canal Street Tavern right here in Dayton, Ohio Friday night September 30th! This is the band that has played Vegas, all over Europe, Australia...and now it's coming to Dayton for the first time since 2007, and the first time ever with the Power Trio lineup! Unless you're planning to fly to Germany to see this band on New Year's Eve, you better make the scene! And, as always, we've got even more local shows in the works that we'll be announcing in due time...

'Till then,

CRAZY JOE IS HEADED FOR AUSTRALIA AND UK - PLUS, LOCAL SHOWS ANNOUNCED!

PEOPLE, IT HAS BEEN BUSY AROUND HERE.

This posting is long overdue and there is so much happening, it almost doesn't seem fit to cram it all into one news bulletin...but here goes anyway. Crazy Joe leaves this coming Tuesday for the Wintersun Festival in Port Macquerie, Australia, possibly the biggest rockabilly festival in the world, to play with the Deke Dickerson Power Trio - featuring Deke and the illustrious and magical Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague - as well as backing up the lovely Marti Brom! Crazy Joe has never been so far around the world and is positively ITCHING to find out if the toilets really do flush backwards there, and if all his pictures will need to be rotated in PhotoShop after he gets back! Seriously, this is a tremendous event and we should all wish him the best of luck on his 14+ hour voyage - that doesn't even include the first leg of the trip to Los Angeles! Speaking of Southern California, Joe will be headed there the very following weekend (he'll be home a whopping 36 hours!) to play again with Deke and Co. at a Tribute to Johnny Cash at the Ventura Fairgrounds Saturday June 18th! While he's in town, he'll be doing some session work and engineering on a new Deke record - or was that supposed to be a secret? Finally, the Deke Dickerson Power Trio slams into the UK to play at the Hot Rod Hayride festival at the end of July - think of this amazing event as an ugly cousin to the famous Rockabilly Rave that Joe has played a couple of times in the past. Truly a jet-setting couple of months!

In local shows, a newly-reformed Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws will play Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs Saturday July 2nd for a killer 4th-of-July weekend show! So what is this "newly-reformed" business? Well, in addition to the ever-present good ol' "Hep Cat" Matt Duffey on bass, meet the latest addition to the MRO dynasty - ladies and gentleman, give it up for "Anaconda" Kyle Eldridge on drums AND guitar! He's a talented young man from right here in Enon, Ohio and we're proud to have him.

There are still more shows on the calendar to talk about, but that's enough for now...stay tuned!

Kind regards from beautiful downtown Enon, Ohio,

Edmund Sinnicky

NEW CRAZY JOE SHOWS ANNOUNCED! RICKY NYE, DEKE DICKERSON, AND...COULD IT BE?...TYRD FYRGYSYN?!!

Hello everybody!

Crazy Joe has recently lined up some VERY EXCITING shows that you should know about! First: due to a last-minute schedule change, Joe is headed for Las Vegas Saturday April 23rd to play the 14th Annual Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekender at the Orleans Hotel and Casino with the Deke Dickerson Power Trio, featuring Deke Dickerson and Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague! If you happen to be at the festival that weekend - possibly the biggest of its kind in the world - do NOT miss this show in its prime-time Saturday night slot! It's a crazy-good band and you won't want to miss it.

If shows closer to Joe's hometown are more your speed, mark Saturday April 30th on your calendars - it's the Crazy Joe Show LIVE at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs featuring Cincinnati legend Ricky Nye on first-rate boogie-woogie and R&B piano! This is the band that has played a few times in the recent past, including the Dayton Cityfolk Festival last year, and it's a killer band featuring hotshots Brian "Stix" McAylor on drums and Steve "Buck Stevens" Buckel on bass! Don't miss it...show time is at 10pm.

Finally, (sigh)...not sure how to tell you this, but that danged Tyrd Fyrgysyn has once AGAIN wound up on Crazy Joe's front doorstep and has somehow booked a show at Peach's this weekend with his band the MasterXploders. How does this keep happening? He doesn't have a passport, driver's license, or even a Kroger Plus card! How long is it going to be before Tyrd gets deported back to Latvia THIS time, we wonder? Either way, there's an all-Greenon High School-alumni happening at Peach's this Saturday April 16th with Fnu Lnu and Ocean Ghosts as well Mr. Fyrgie - so bring 6 bucks down to Peach's and brace yourself.

See you around, my friends.

CRAZY JOE IS BACK FRIDAY APRIL 8th WITH HIS FIRST CONCERT AT DAYTON'S HISTORIC CANAL STREET TAVERN SINCE SEPTEMBER 2007!

Listen up, people!

Now that I've gotten your attention by being unnecessarily rude, I have something to tell you: "Crazy" Joe Tritschler has scheduled his first concert appearance in several months at Dayton, Ohio's historic Canal Street Tavern this coming Friday April 8th! This is surprising news, as some of you have noticed that he has been strangely quiet the last few months. A few people have speculated that he's been overwhelmed by his job workin' for the MAN; a few others have postulated that he's joined some cobra-worshippin' cult or something. Still others just figure he's been holed up in his basement building mad-scientist audio equipment, as he tends to do in cold weather months. Well, two out of three ain't too far from the truth, and it's up to you folks to decide which! The bottom line? GET YOURSELVES TO CANAL STREET APRIL 8TH! In addition to playing a show with Cincinnati hotshots Brian Aylor on drums and Buck Stevens on bass, Joe will debut a terrifying new piece of guitar amplification equipment. How many of you remember the "Rig of Death" from a few years ago? Well, it just went nuclear. By the way, in case you're concerned, the Mad River Outlaws haven't gone anywhere...they'll be making a James Brown-style comeback sooner than you think.

Mark this show on your calendars! And while you're at it, check out this AMAZING poster from FNHARSH.COM!

ONE NIGHT ONLY! CRAZY JOE AND THE ORIGINAL MAD RIVER OUTLAWS WITH "PUNKIN" PAT LEE!

Hello good folks,

Has it really been nearly three months since the last news update?  Well, I might as well come clean...I've been working for a defense contractor (that's right, practically the definition of working for the man) and the first few weeks have been a little rough; lotsa travel and not much down time.  I frankly haven't had much time for rocking in any capacity, but that is about  to come to a shuddering halt as I announce a once-in-a-lifetime performance of epic proportions...a one-night reunion of the ORIGINAL Mad River Outlaws with drummer "Punkin'" Pat Lee on November 20th at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs, Ohio! For those of you who have followed the band through the years, you know that this lineup (which won the Dayton Band Playoffs at Canal Street Tavern in 2003 and recorded the LP Chopped, Slammed, & Twangin') hasn't played together since 2005.

So what has brought about this magical re-grouping?  Well, my dear sister (call her Crazy Betsy) had but one wish for her 30th birthday; and she got it! Mr. Lee is flying in from Reno, Nevada just for this performance, which will include ALL our old "hits" and shenanigans (with the possible exception of standup-bass-surfing, as I happen to like my limbs intact just as they are).  To further commemorate this event, we'll be reissuing the old "skull" t-shirt and will have copies of Chopped, Slammed, & Twangin' available for just five bucks, the same as the cost of admission.  The "Mark-I" lineup of the band certainly had a "special" sound, one not for the faint of heart and due in no small part to "Punkin" Pat's particular brand of stylistic flamboyance behind the drums.  Well, it's back for just one night.

We'll be updating this site as details fall into place; in the meantime, mark the 20th of November on your calendars and I'll be delighted to see you at the show.

Regards from Enon, Ohio,
"Crazy" Joe Tritschler

NEWS FLASH! - Friday August 6th, 2010

IT'S OFFICIAL - SAY HELLO TO DOCTOR CRAZY!  PLUS, GREAT LOCAL SHOWS!

Folks, it's officially official...Doctor Simon "Crazy" Josef Tritschler has finally completed and been awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering from Wright State University and now joins a VERY nerdy club of guitar pickin' Ph.D.'s including Brian May of Queen and John Tichy of Commander Cody's Lost Planet Airmen! He is truly honored to be in such company and more than a little relieved to have finally finished this seven-year endeavor - heck, he's technically been in school since 1984 for crying out loud! So let's give Doctor Crazy our heartiest congratulations as he embarks on who the heck knows what.

In local news...Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws are all set for next weekend's sure-to-be-amazing Festiki 2010 at Old River Park in Dayton, Ohio, featuring lots of great bands, hula and fire dancers, tiki carvers, retro vendors, and all sorts of other surf- and Hawaiian-themed stuff! You may notice that also on the bill is the terrifying TYRD FYRGYSYN AND THE MASTERXPLODERS, who have somehow created a Facebook page, despite not knowing any English nor computer skills. Can you REALLY afford to miss this show?  We think not.  Speaking of Facebook pages, check out the OFFICIAL (but not yet fleshed-out) Crazy Joe page!

Finally. if you're free this Saturday August 7th and happen to be in the Dayton area, come downtown to J-Alan's for The Rob Heiliger and Crazy Joe Show!  Crazy Joe will be backing Rob up on a variety of 50's and 60's country cover tunes and Rob's ever-so-twisted original hit songs. Sounds like Saturday night to me.

Yours truly,
Ed Sinnicky

Lots going on this coming weekend, folks!  First off, Crazy Joe will be performing this Friday evening from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at the 2010 Cityfolk Festival in downtown Dayton backed by the monumental Ricky Nye Incorporated!  If you haven't seen Ricky, he is truly a boogie-woogie and blues piano virtuoso and you don't want to miss it...it's really an explosive combination.  Want even more Crazy Joe?  Come see Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws SATURDAY night at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs and you'll get all the rockabilly, country, and rock & roll you'll need to GET DOWN on 4th of July weekend - jes' get you some out-of-state fireworks and a used lawnmower and let 'er rip!    Rumor has it that TYRD FYRGYSYN will make a brief appearance Saturday night in anticipation of Festiki 2010 in August...we'll just have to see about that.

CRAZY JOE IS OFFICIALLY ALMOST A DOCTOR!  PEACH'S GRILL THIS SATURDAY NIGHT!

Ladies and gentlemen, monumental news this week...as of last Thursday, our boy "Crazy" Joe Tritschler has PASSED his Ph.D. dissertation defense and, with only a few more details to massage into place, is OFFICIALLY ALMOST A DOCTOR OF ENGINEERING!  He is indeed looking forward to introducing himself as "Dr. Crazy"; sure has a nice ring to it, now don't it?  So what better way to congratulate the man than by coming down to Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs, Ohio this Saturday night June 5th to enjoy Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws IN PERSON?!!  We can't think of a better way.  Mr. Crazy will be bringing his electric ukulele for a very special set of wild instrumentals in addition to the ROCKIN' good time that is a CJ+MRO hallmark...so for heaven's sake, PLEASE plan to make the scene! In the words of Deke Dickerson, GOOD JOB, CRAZY JOE!

NEWS FLASH! - Monday April 26th, 2010

Hi folks! I've elected to give Ed a break this time and update the site myself. I've been working like a dog on this Ph.D., trying to finish by June 12th...so please wish me luck; I'm going to need it just to stay sane! A few really good gigs coming up...this Friday April 30th I'm doing a duo gig with The Rob Heiliger and Crazy Joe Show, mostly our original songs and classic country tunes from the 50's and 60's.  That will be at Peach's Grill here in Yellow Springs, I believe the cover is five bucks and it's always a heck of a lot of fun.  The weekend of May 7-8-9 I'm in Chicago, Springfield (Illinois), and St. Louis with Deke Dickerson and Jimmy Sutton, playing mostly drums in a "rockabilly power trio" of sorts.  And please mark Saturday June 5th on your calendars for another blast from the recently reformed Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws at Peach's.  Plenty more shows scheduled for July and August, but these should keep you updated for now! Until then, have a good one and I'll see you at the gig.

Your pal,
Crazy Joe

CRAZY JOE IN L.A. THIS WEEKEND! NEW SHOWS ANNOUNCED!

Hello,

Just a quick message to our friends in Southern California that Crazy Joe will be playing two shows in L.A. supporting Deke Dickerson with Chris “Sugarballs” Sprague this weekend!  He’ll be in Reseda Friday night at Weber’s Bar and Grill and the Redwood Bar downtown Saturday night.  Come to the shows and have a ball!  This is, of course, the same band that, in a role-reversal of sorts, backed Crazy Joe in Vegas last weekend…and hoo-boy, what an event that was.  Highlights included Deke and Chris stuffing Crazy Joe into a bass drum case and forcing him to sing a Little Richard song, and a surprise jam session with the illustrious Del Casher.  Here’s the first of eleven YouTube videos of the whole concert, but parents be forewarned…there’s a little more “blue” language than usual:

Crazy Joe in Las Vegas 4/3/10

Also is a nice rendition of “Flight of the Beverly Bumblebillies” on a miniature Burns guitar at Deke’s Guitar Geek Vegas Show the previous night.  Enjoy!

Flight of the Beverly Bumblebillies on the Little Guitar

More updates next weeek!

CRAZY JOE AND THE MAD RIVER OUTLAWS REUNITED!  MORE SHOWS ANNOUNCED!

BIG news this week, folks...REALLY big.  The much-anticipated return of Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws is a reality this Saturday night March 27th at Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs!!  Now, you may be asking yourselves, "is this really big news?"  Well, considering they haven't played publicly since New Year's Eve 2008 and are BACK AS A TRIO FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 2005, then yes, this is HUGE news!  The rumor is that they'll be pulling out material they haven't done since their first album came out in 2003 - remember their early hits like "Hey! Andy Valeri"?  People, if you don't remember what the Outlaws sounded like in the "old" days, you need to come hear this band...raw and rockin' to the CRAZY EXTREME.  And for those of you who may be wondering, "how could it be the original Outlaws without original drummer 'Punkin' Pat Lee?", fear not...it turns out fellow Greenon-graduate Ryan Fyffe replaced the Punkin' in the high school pep band in 1996!!!  So if anyone can fill the Punkin's shoes, this man has a pedigree.

In other news, Crazy Joe will be hitting Fullerton, CA and the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend April Fool's Weekend with Deke Dickerson and Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague!   Wish him luck on his travels.  But seriously, folks...COME TO THE SHOW SATURDAY NIGHT!!!  "Hep Cat" Matt is even going to be playing stand-up bass for some of the show...will Crazy Joe "surf" the bass like the old days?  Anyone remember the time he FELL OFF?

See you there,

Hey gang!  A quick shout-out to our local friends and fans that the Crazy Joe and Rob Heiliger Show will be playing Peach's Grill this Saturday February 13th!  What could POSSIBLY be more romantic than to spend Valentine's Day weekend with these guys, playing songs like "I Branded My Baby's Behind," "Kentucky Jelly," "Please Don't Call Me (Ever Again)," and "I Was Drunk Last Night (But Not As Drunk As Your Mom)?"  So bring your special someone...OR pick one up at the show!  Either way, be sure to make the scene.

NEWS FLASH! - Monday December 21st, 2009

CRAZY JOE IS HEALING NICELY AND WILL BE BACK AT PEACH'S GRILL THIS SATURDAY NIGHT 12/26!

Friends, Crazy Joe had an audio-engineering accident last week that required eight stitches in the palm of his right hand. While archiving an old reel-to-reel tape in his studio last Tuesday afternoon, the tape started shredding during rewind and poor ol' Joe tried to stop the very thin aluminum reels (spinning at a few thousand RPM) with his bare hands.  DO NOT click on the following links if blood and/or guts makes you at all squeamish:

THE CRIME SCENE

BLOOD 'N GUTS

POOR JOE

The good news is that the stitches come out tomorrow and Joe's hand is healing very nicely. While he was getting worked on (after passing out cold from a Lidocaine reaction - bet THAT was embarrassing, haha) he couldn't resist the temptation to ask, "doctor, will I ever play clarinet the same again?"  EVEN BETTER NEWS is that the injury doesn't seem to affect his geetar playing one bit, thank heavens...so come down to Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs, Ohio this Saturday night and show the boy some sympathy!  He'll be backed by the wonderful Ricky Nye Incorporated featuring Brian Aylor on drums and Steve Perakis on bass. The Thanksgiving show was truly a blast - so don't miss this one!

And from all of us at O-Scope Recording Company, Merry Whatever!

CRAZY JOE WITH RICKY NYE AT PEACH'S GRILL THIS SATURDAY NIGHT 11/28! MORE SHOWS ANNOUNCED!

Folks, this is it...the performance you've all been anticipating for some time now...Crazy Joe is returning to Peach's Grill in Yellow Springs, Ohio for the first time in over twelve months THIS SATURDAY NIGHT! Featuring the talents of Ricky Nye Incorporated, he'll be blazing through all your familiar favorites as well as some of the baddest boogie woogie and blues you're likely to hear, courtesy of Ricky and his crack band consisting of Brian Aylor on drums and Steve Perakis on bass. If you've already heard this amazing trio before, wait 'till you hear it as a quartet. Joe couldn't be more excited to be playing here in town again.

Crazy Joe is equally ecstatic to report that he's been booked for Deke Dickerson's Guitar Geek Festival in Anaheim, CA this coming January! What will Mr. Crazy do to top his last performance? Why, he'll be playing the set entirely on the electric ukulele, of course! More details to come...in the meantime, to all our friends in the good ol' USA, have a FANTASTIC Thanksgiving and we'll see you Saturday night!

Monday, April 6th, 2009 - UPCOMING EVENTS - VEGAS, NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, AND ALL OVER EUROPE!

NEWS FLASH! Hey gang! Crazy Joe and the boys made it back from Spain in one piece, and what a fantastic trip...wonderful crowds, great food - although Crazy Joe learned the hard way not to overdo it on the fried octopus and baby squid (it was a four-hour lesson later that night that he won't soon forget). Nevertheless, you are sincerely encouraged to check out the many videos posted on YouTube; at last check, there were too many to count. Many thanks to Bloody Mary and I Wanna Management and all the really great people who made the eleven-city tour a resounding success. Here's to more tours in the future.

Thursday, October 23, 2008 - BIG HALLOWEEN WEEKEND COMING UP!

NEWS FLASH!
Ladies and gentlemen...we are pleased to announce that your old friends Crazy Joe and the Mad River Outlaws will be appearing in concert at Peach's Grill Saturday November 1st for a BIG Halloween Showcase and costume party! They'll get things going with music starting at 9:00 p.m. SHARP and continuing through the costume judging contest at midnight. They're tickled to death to be playing at Peach's again after more than a full year's absence.

However, we also have a much more ominous piece of news...we are flat-out terrified to announce the return of TERD FERGUSON with his new band the MASTER EXPLODERS for an intermediate set of Latvian surf mayhem!!! This is not a drill...this is the real deal. Mr. Ferguson refuses to comment on his whereabouts the last twelve months and what he did to the Latvian Polka All-Stars (all he will say, in broken English, is "I bunched 'em"), nor will he divulge any secrets about their musical plan of attack for the evening. To the faithful constituents of the Crazy Joe Mailing List...what matters is that this is an event that you DO NOT want to miss, if for no other reason than morbid curiosity.

With cordial regards,
Edmund J. Sinnicky, Esquire, OSRC Press Manager

That's right, you can ring in 2009 with STYLE in beautiful Enon, Ohio! Advance tickets will be available soon; keep it tuned right here, but by all means plan on making the scene.

NEWS FLASH! We are pleased to announce that the brand-new issue of Guitar Player Magazine features a three-page article on our very own nerd-a-billy pal, "Crazy" Joe Tritschler! In the article, appearing in the March 2008 issue and featuring two rather large pictures, Joe elaborates on such subjects as recording techniques, amplifier construction, string gauges, and Rigs of Death! Wednesday, December 12, 2007 - CRAZY JOE IS IN VINTAGE GUITAR MAGAZINE!

Hey folks...quick news update to let you know that our boy "Crazy" Joe Tritschler has made it into the pages of Vintage Guitar Magazine! Check out the January 2008 issue, available on the newsstands right now, at retailers such as Barnes & Noble! Of course, the ironic part of this whole thing is that Crazy Joe doesn't own a single vintage guitar - his guitar, built by Dayton's own Casey Simmons, is brand new! Regardless, go get yourself a copy and enjoy the article.

Sincerely yours,
Ed Sinnicky, Press Manager
